Code of Ethics for Tourists
1.-
Cultiva el hábito de escuchar y observar en lugar de ver y oír.
Cultivate
the habit of listening and observing rather than hearing and seeing.
2.-
Se consciente de que frecuentemente las personas en el lugar que visitas
tienen conceptos del tiempo y patrones de pensamiento diferentes de los
tuyos. Esto no los hace inferiores, solo diferentes.
Realize
that often the people in the country you visit have time concepts and
thought patterns different from you own. This does not make inferior,
only different.
3.-
En lugar de buscar paraísos prefabricados, descubre la riqueza
de conocer una manera distinta de vivir, a través de los ojos de
los otros.
Instead
of looking for the beach paradise, discover the enrichment of seeing a
different way of life though others eyes.
4.-
Adáptate a las costumbres locales. Lo que es aceptado en un lugar
puede no serlo en otro. Los lugareños pueden ayudarte.
Acquaint
yourself with the local custom. What is courteous in one country may be
quite reverse in another. People will be happy to help you.
5.-
En vez de creer que “Tenemos todas las respuestas”, cultivemos
el hábito de hacer preguntas.
Instead
of the Western practice of "Knowing all answers", cultivate the habit
of asking questions.
6.-
Recuerda que tu eres uno de tantos viajeros que pasan por el lugar que
visitas, no esperes ningún privilegio especial.
Remember
that you are only one of thousands of tourist visiting this country and
do not expect special privileges.
7. Si
realmente quieres tener una experiencia profunda, no gastes tu tiempo
y dinero en trasladarte, mejor pasa mas tiempo en cada lugar.
If
you really want your experience to be a "home away from home", it is foolish
tospend your money on traveling.
8. Si
estas de compras y obtienes una magnifica rebaja, recuerda que esta es
posible debido a lo poco que le pagan a los artesanos.
When
you are shopping, remember that the "bargain" you obtained was possible
only because of the low wages paid to the maker.
9. No
hagas promesas a las personas del lugar que visitas a menos de que estés
preparado para cumplirlas.
Do
not make promises to people in you host country unless you are prepared
to carry them through.
10. Ocúpate de reflexionar acerca de tus experiencias día a
día, para tratar de profundizar tu comprensión de la misma.
Se dice que lo que nos enriquece puede lastimar la dignidad y las costumbres
de los demás.
Spend
time reflecting on your daily experience in an attempt to deepen your
understanding. It has been said that "what enriches you may rob and violate
others".
